Prominent Art Historian and Feminist Theorist Griselda Pollock to Speak at Smithsonian Event

The Smithsonian Associates presents a discussion with ground-breaking art historian, cultural analyst and feminist theorist, Griselda Pollock, on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center at 1100 Jefferson Drive S.W. In a far-ranging interview, Pollock will discuss the key concepts that have shaped her thinking about art in all its forms through history and the impact of critical feminist theory and practice in museums, art history and cultural production. Pollock will also deliver the keynote address in the symposium on Virtuality and Technology in Feminist Curation at the Smithsonian on Friday, Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 24, made possible through the support of the Leverhulme Trust.

Pollock is director of the Centre for Cultural Analysis, Theory and History and holds the chair of social and critical histories of art at the University of Leeds, England. She has led generations of scholars and artists to reexamine the fabric of such fundamental concepts as the canon in art history, femininity and the complex ways we express our social, cultural and personal identities.

The symposium is part of a series of events sponsored by the Leverhulme Trust-funded international research network on feminism and curating. This network brings together researchers and curators whose interest is in museum and exhibition practice influenced by feminism.

Tickets for “An Interview with Griselda Pollock: Feminism, Art and Other Matters” are $20 for general admission and $15 for Associate members.
